Ruminants communiqués August 2009

Safeguard the heifer breeding programme. In order to minimise renewal costs, the new ProVilys calf programme makes specific recommendations with feed formulas adapted to different stages.

  • At the start, the goal is maximum digestive security and quick development of the rumen. A strict selection of raw ingredients and use of the Nutridigest Baby Pack will safeguard the first weeks of breeding through:
    • a sweetener in addition to the flavouring to make the feed more appetising
    • live yeast to promote the development of the rumen’s flora
    • specific fibres chosen for their swelling power and for regulating bowel movement
    • yeast membranes that stimulate immunity and ensure fixation of pathogenic bacteria, so limiting attacks on the intestine.
    • vegetable extracts and organic acid to encourage development of the proper intestinal flora
    • essential amino acids with non allergenic proteins

Trial using extracts of yeast membrane from the
Pack Baby Nutridigest. We can observe a much greater
development of the intestinal villosities

  • As the animal grows, a good level of immunity should be guaranteed in order to achieve weight goals. The first Px Baby ASP guaranteed to be appetising, safe and effective :
    • a vanilla flavour that is particularly appreciated by the young ruminants
    • a wide selection of antioxidants with high levels of vitamin E, selenium and chelated trace elements reinforced by polyphenols (grape seed extracts)
    • hepatic factors to improve digestion of fats.
    • swelling fibres to regulate bowel movements.

Ruminants communiqués August 2009

Improve ration effectiveness To improve ration effectiveness and reduce the Indice de Transformation Laitière (ITL®), or “Dairy Transformation Index”, ProVilys has developed two products according to the limiting factor of the ration:

Control Amaferm dose 1 Amaferm dose 2

The inclusion of Amaferm ensures a much greater growth of the rumen
fungi to increase the digestion of fibres

Trial DMI+ - INRA Nancy, 2009
ITL*

*ITL: Milk transformation index (g MS /kg milk)

1/ For mixed rations of corn/grass silage or rations with a high fibre content, the digestibility of the NDF should be increased. ValoFib will boost cellulose digestion by combining:

- live yeast,
- Amaferm, a patented additive that boosts the action of rumen fungi
The mode of action of ValoFib is based on the synergy of these ingredients: Amaferm will accelerate the splitting of fibres thanks to the faster growth of fungi so that the cellulolytic bacteria, which are stimulated by the live yeast, penetrate easier and have more time to digest.
> Field trials with ValoFib on a hay-aftermath ration gave an improvement in milk production of one litre

2/ For 100% corn silage rations, potassium is a limiting factor on ingestion and adversely production. DMI+ will rebalance the Baca and stimulate ingestion in two ways:

a complex of vegetable extracts that act upon the nervous system, affecting the pleasure and appetite-stimulation areas
sources of potassium and sodium to increase the electrolytic balance
> Field trials with DMI+ have shown an increase in ingestion of 1 kg of dry matter for an improvement in milk production of 2.5 litres, which translates into an improvement in dietary efficiency. This is confirmed by the ITL measured at the Inra trial in Nancy

Swine communiqués August 2009

  • ProVilys constantly invests in research and development so as to offer feed manufacturers solutions that are adapted to the issues facing swine breeders.
  • Regarding knowledge of raw ingredients and the qualification of functional fibres, ProVilys has developed an exhaustive programme that enables the improvement of the growth performance of piglets and preserves the integrity of their digestive tract. This new nutritional approach involves the use of :
    • new formulation criteria that take into account the type and behaviour of fibres of various raw ingredients used in animal feed
    • an original prebiotic approach, with a core of functional fibres exclusive to ProVilys.

  • The differentiation of dietary programmes according to stages or genetic types has been an area of research for several years now. In 2009, ProVilys offered a new formulation approach for targeted supplements tailored to the animals’ needs.
    • For gestating sows, the nutritional levels of feed are adapted to the type of dietary behaviour as well as to the gestation stage. This allows precise needs to be taken into account according to the foetus’s various periods of development.
    • The recommendations are differentiated for lactation for a genetic approach that has a strong effect on the level of corporeal mobilisation. In practical terms, ProVilys strongly recommends the distribution of lactation feed from the start of maternity in order to better cover the needs of sows at high levels of productivity. The technical approach therefore integrates specific recommendations with feed for suckling sows adapted to the genetic type, enriched with functional fibres, hepatic protectors and acidifying agents. These feeds for suckling sows are also based upon an original concept of management of the electrolytic balance.

  • As far as products are concerned, the creation of ProVilys, a merger of Celtic and Centralys, has brought together a number of speciality nutritional products.
    • The GESTIM range is now used by all manufacturing partners, since it offers specific solutions to different sanitary contexts, such as Gestim RĂ©nal, a new urinary acidifying agent, or Gestim Phanères, which treats all skin and hoof problems.
    • This year, there is a particular emphasis on the use of CMax3 for lactating sows. This combination of essential oils and organic acids in an exclusive mixture (APA = Poly Anionised Additive that allows a progressive release and a better dispersion of ingredients in the stomach and intestine) has shown excellent results, particularly for older sows. The synergy of essential oil and organic acid translates into a lowering of the effects of ambient microbial pressure, with a reduction of losses underneath the mother.
